Pool Rules

  1. Emergency procedures must be observed. Please follow the direction of the pool staff at all times and leave the pool area upon the signal or request of the lifeguards.

  2. Pool passes permit entry into the pool area – all patrons must have a pool pass to enter the pool area regardless of intention of entering the water. Pool passes are non-transferable and non-refundable.

  3. All persons are required to take a cleansing shower bath before entering the pool.

  4. Children who are not toilet-trained must wear a swim diaper in the pools.

  5. Practice sun safety; always wear sunscreen, seek shaded areas, and protect your skin from direct sun exposure.

  6. No person with a communicable disease will be allowed to use the pool.

  7. Persons with open cuts, sores, bandages, colds, coughs, or communicable diseases are not permitted in the pool.

  8. Proper swim suits are required. No street clothes are permitted and changing of clothes must be done within designated changing areas.

  9. Running and horse play are not allowed.

  10. No water wings, swimmies, rafts, flotation devices, mask, fins or snorkels, torpedo toys are allowed.

  11. All swimmers under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible guardian at all times. Parents must be in the water with their children who are 3 yrs. and under.

  12. Water shoes are not allowed. They track in rocks and debris attached to the bottom of the sole

  13. Glass containers are not allowed within aquatics facilities.

  14. Drinking, smoking, the possession of alcohol, or the use of drugs is strictly prohibited.

  15. Harassment, abusive or obscene language, or gestures will forfeit your right to use the pool.

  16. Deep water test will be given every half-hour. To swim in the deep end, swimmers must pass a swim test given by the lifeguard who will issue a deep water bracelet to that swimmer that qualifies. The Lifeguard may revoke the band if they feel it is unsafe to have that person in the deep water.

  17. Noodles will only be given to those who pass the deep water test. Noodle swimmers must be kept in the designated area assigned by the lifeguard.

  18. In the event of thunder or lightning, pool patrons must clear the pool premises. Pool activities will remain suspended until thirty minutes after the last thunder is heard.

  19. If the Recreation Department is unable to adequately staff South Pool due to lifeguards returning to college, only Center Pool will remain open.

The Walpole Recreation Department reserves the right to ask anyone to leave for failing to comply with any of the above health and safety regulations.

Walpole's Wading Pool and Center Pool are conveniently located at the corner of School Street and Stone Street, across the street from Town Hall. Both pools offer access to bathrooms, showers, and changing facilities.

South Pool

Walpole's South Pool is located in South Walpole off of Washington Street on Jason's Path, directly behind the Boyden Elementary School. The South Pool also includes bathrooms, showers, and a changing area.

Swim Lessons

Our Red Cross-certified lifeguards, who are also trained in First Aid and CPR, instruct our swimming lessons. Classes take place rain or shine and are only canceled in the event of thunder and lightning. Due to safety precautions, parents are asked to watch their children from behind the surrounding fence.

Youth Pool Parties

The Walpole Recreation Department holds weekly pool parties at Center Pool for all Walpole students in grades 3-6. These parties feature swimming, music, and refreshments. These parties will be supervised by certified Recreation Department lifeguards and Recreation staff.


Pool Rentals

Each of the pools operated by the Walpole Recreation Department are available to rent whenever the pools are closed to the public. Payment is required in full at the time of the rental and will include an additional refundable $50.00 deposit to cover the cost of cleanup. Pool rental includes three lifeguards for a maximum of 40 guests in the pool area.
